CRI Course

CLASS RATING INSTRUCTOR COURSE
There are two categories of CRI(A) certificates:
- CRI(A) for single-engine aeroplanes; and
- CRI(A) for multi-engine aeroplanes.
MINIMUM AGE - CRI(A):
- An applicant for an instructor certificate shall be at least 18 years of age.

PRE-REQUISITES - CRI(A)
Licence:
- shall hold at least the licence and rating(s) for which instruction is to be given;
- shall be entitled to act as PIC on the aeroplane during the flight instruction.
Flight time as pilot on aeroplanes and PIC time:
For CRI(A) certificates for single-engine aeroplanes:
- shall have completed at least 300 hours flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes; and
- 30 hours as PIC on the applicable class or type of aeroplane.
For CRI(A) certificates for multi-engine aeroplanes:
- shall have completed at least 500 hours flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes; and
- 30 hours as PIC on the applicable class or type of aeroplane.
Experience/competence on the aeroplane class:
- shall have completed at least 15 hours of flight time as a pilot on the class of aeroplanes on which flight instruction is to be given, of which a maximum of 7 hours may be in an FSTD representing the class of aeroplane, if applicable; or
- shall have passed an assessment of competence for CRI(A) on class of aeroplane.

The training course consists of 3 parts:
Part 1:
Teaching and Learning Instruction that should comply with the requirements with FI(A) course:
- This part should include at least 25 hours of instruction;
- CREDIT: Applicant holding or having held an instructor certificate shall be fully credited towards this requirements.
Part 2:
Technical Training (technical theoretical knowledge instruction):
- This part shall include at least 10 hours of technical training, including revision of technical knowledge, the preparation of lesson plans and the development of classroom/simulator instructional skills;
- CREDIT: Applicants for a CRI(A) for multi-engine aeroplanes holding a CRI(A) certificate for single-engine aeroplanes shall be fully credited towards this requirement.
Part 3:
Flight Training. This part shall include:
- for CRI(A) for multi-engine aeroplanes: at least 5 hours of flight instruction on multi-engine aeroplanes;
- for CRI(A) for single-engine aeroplanes: at least 3 hours of flight instruction on single-engine aeroplanes.
